A group of four HOC members met at the BP service station at Scole at 10:00 for a cross country ride out to the David Silver Museum at Leiston. The route included a short run along the A143 to Harleston, followed by the twisty B1123 to Metfield and Halesworth, followed by the A144 to Bramfield and our first tea/coffee stop at the Two Magpies Bakery at Darsham.
A highlight of the social chatter at Darsham was Dean regaling us with stories (sometimes gruesome) of his service in the RNLI. He also gave us an insight into some of his favourite hobbies. Some of these were startling and worthy of a separate report – suffice to say that some of them were well outside what might be considered the mainstream for a newly retired gentleman of a certain age …..!
Following our refreshments we continued to Leiston through some delightful Suffolk country lanes via Dunwich Forest and Westleton. At the Museum we briefly met Martin, another HOC member who unfortunately had work
commitments that day. Nonetheless, the museum was a thoroughly enjoyable
experience for the group and a pleasant trip down memory lane. The museum is the largest of its kind in the UK with numerous Honda motorcycles from early days beautifully presented. Two of our members, David and Dean also took the opportunity to purchase some spare parts for their bikes, albeit there were some dark mutterings about the cost of postage of certain items …! Hopefully, the half-price museum admission may have been of some comfort!
Following the museum visit, three of us continued to The Kitchen at Thorpeness for lunch with the good wishes of Graham, who unfortunately had to return home. The sausage rolls at The Kitchen lived up to their reputation and were eagerly scoffed by all. After further lively social chatter, the day concluded with a pleasant bimble back to Harleston where everyone went their separate ways.
Thank you to all those who attended what was a very pleasant day out.

This was the first Rideout the Norfolk, and North Suffolk branch of the club has run since Rob Stepped down from being Secretary.
I am very grateful to Nigel Burrows for stepping up and leading this ride.
I have never been to David Silvers place and found that they had plenty of motorcycles and an SS50 / featured above with Graham / mine at 20 or so years old was Green.
I really enjoyed the day.
Don’t forget our next meetining on the 26th of July at Grumpys (See the Blog for more information).
Enjoyed the rideout to David Silvers Museum, stopping along the way for a cuppa and conversation on various unusual topics. (Thanks Dean) You learn something new every day. Sorry I had to miss lunch at Thorpeness, glad to see the sausage rolls were still available. Look forward to many more outings with good company. Thanks again to Nigel,David and Dean for an excellent day.
